Due to the rising cost- and time-pressure in the product lifecycles of the Automotive Industry und the increasing data volume regarding the new CAD-programs und its functionalities the new transmission protocol OFTP2 was established by ODETTE (Organization for Data Exchange by Tele Transmission in Europe). The realisation was supported by an ODETTE-workgroup, to which HUENGSBERG belongs, in order to contribute to the realisation of the new transmission standard.

The new OFTP2 protocol offers many advantages compared to the forerunner-version OFTP V1.2. These are in particular:

• The data communication takes place over the Internet and thus offers faster transmission rates than the under OFTP V1.2 used ISDN. Also the cost structure of the transmission via Internet is a multiple economical than over ISDN.
• A line-encryption per TLS occurs in order to guarantee the general security-requirements in the Automotive Industry. The file-encryption of the user data takes place with RSA or Triple DES. Both encryption-types will be covered over station-specific certificates.
• Further the End-to-End-Response will be signed. Therewith the „authenticity“ of the communication with the partner is guaranteed.
• Additional description of the virtual file name (virtual file description).

HUENGSBERG AG contributed to the realisation of the new OFTP2 Transfer Protocol and implemented it successfully. To guarantee the compatibility of the software with other suppliers, the OFTP2 Software has been tested mutually and certified. HUENGSBERG carried out the certification in the dictated time frame and completed it successfully.
